A Calming Bonus Room Design Project Under the Eaves

Package:

The Intentional Rental

This neglected bonus room in a rental apartment was transformed into a calming, restorative space. It had been a bit of everything: office, makeup spot, storage overflow. But what the clients really needed was a quiet space to unwind. Now, low-profile furniture, earthy tones, and natural textures create a peaceful retreat for work, relaxation, and daily rituals.

Because the room sits under a sharply pitched ceiling, tall furniture was out of the question. I leaned into that challenge by designing with low, soft forms to create a relaxed, grounding feel without crowding the space.

To enhance the calming, restorative feel, I proposed painting one of the walls a rich forest green, adding depth, warmth, and a subtle connection to nature. The palette takes cues from the clients’ recent trip to Indonesia: sandy tones, stone textures, and earthy layers with subtle tropical warmth. That restorative energy became the soul of the space: a calming bohemian retreat with subtle urban touches, designed for slow moments, quiet work, and daily rituals.
