AN INDUSTRIAL-BOHO RENTAL APARTMENT WITH DEFINED LIVING ZONES

This industrial-boho rental apartment was designed to help a young couple harmonise two different styles while creating a cohesive and functional home for their first shared space.
The main challenge was a lack of visual and spatial harmony, with conflicting styles making the apartment feel disconnected and undefined. Because this is a rental, the existing layout and structure remained unchanged. The focus was entirely on spatial planning, furniture layout, zoning, and visual direction to bring clarity and balance to the space.
The open-plan living area was reorganised into two clearly defined but connected zones: living and dining. A structural wooden beam already present in the apartment was used as a subtle divider, while the sofa anchors the living area and establishes a clear focal point.
The living space was designed to feel flexible and inviting, with layered seating options that support both everyday relaxation and hosting. A compact coffee station was introduced near the kitchen, adding a personal and expressive corner within the industrial-boho aesthetic.
In the dining area, negative space was intentionally preserved to improve circulation and create a lighter, more breathable feeling beneath the sloped ceiling.
The colour palette was developed from one of the client’s existing artworks, blending soft bohemian tones with an industrial edge to unify both personal styles.
The result is a balanced rental apartment interior design that feels intentional, personal, and aligned with how the couple now lives together.
