This open-plan family home was redesigned through my online interior design service for a family who recently relocated from South Africa to the Netherlands, with the goal of creating a warm and welcoming space for everyday living, gathering, and rest.

The open-plan design focuses on building atmosphere through layered materials and a balanced palette of earthy tones, soft neutrals, and warm accent colours. Textures and finishes are combined to create depth, comfort, and a sense of understated elegance.

The living and dining areas are treated as one continuous space, designed to support both daily routines and social moments. Lighting and material choices are used to shape warmth throughout the day, while maintaining a calm visual structure.

Personal elements, including existing artwork with African-inspired motifs, are thoughtfully integrated into the design, adding character and cultural continuity without disrupting visual harmony.

Subtle metallic accents in gold and copper introduce refinement, balancing the softness of textiles and natural materials.

The result is a layered, open-plan family home that feels grounded, welcoming, and emotionally warm: designed to support connection, comfort, and everyday life.
