Japandi Home Office Design with Colour
Package:
The Intentional Office
This Amsterdam spare bedroom was transformed into a Japandi home office designed for a creative director who works remotely several days a week. Natural light, custom oak storage, and a balanced colour palette create a warm, functional, and inspiring workspace.
The goal was to create a space that supported deep focus and creativity, while feeling warm, intentional, and connected to the couple’s broader home aesthetic.
The room had generous natural light but limited floor space, so the layout needed to be both functional and calming. A custom-built oak and olive green storage wall now spans one side of the room, combining open shelving, hidden storage, and a height-adjustable desk. This compact, streamlined solution eliminates visual clutter while offering plenty of space for books, objects, and work tools.
On the opposite wall (visible during video calls) I proposed a more expressive and sculptural moment. A bold terracotta lounge chair in soft boucle, paired with a graphic side table and travertine floor lamp, gives the space a sense of personality and balance. A large abstract artwork and Mediterranean-style planter with greenery complete the vignette. Grounded in Japandi principles, the layout combines function, minimalism, and earthy materials.
The palette of chalky whites, sunbaked reds, and muted greens grounds the design in earthy warmth, while subtle black accents add clarity. The result is a serene, tailored workspace that feels as inspiring as it is functional: an office made for focus, comfort, and quiet confidence.
